The Elvis burger
Elvis has left the burger
So bad it’s good: the Elvis burger. Where once he was known for his legendary music and movie career, his love for the combination of bacon, banana, and peanut butter is slowly overtaking his legacy.
Try it, and you’ll see who the real burger king is.
The ingredients:
(serves 4)
Burgers
- 12 slices smoked bacon
- 4 bananas
- 4 tbsp strawberry jam
- 2 tbsp BBQ sauce
- 1 tsp smoked salt
- 6 tbsp peanut butter, extra crunchy
- 4 burger buns
- 4 burgers around 5 oz (140 gr) each
- salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Gear:
- BBQ or grill with cast iron grill grate for direct grilling
- Core thermometer
How to make:
Prep: 30 minutes
Cooking about: 15 minutes
Prepare a BBQ or grill with cast iron grill grate for direct grilling and heat to 200 °C (392 °F). Grill the bacon until crispy and set aside.
Peel the bananas and cut in half lengthwise and then again crosswise. Grill briefly until you get nice grillmarks but not so much that your bananas turn to mush. Take off the grill and keep warm.
Mix the strawberry jam and the BBQ sauce and stir the smoked salt into the peanut butter. Slice your buns and toast on the grill. Season the burgers with salt and freshly ground black pepper and grill on both sides until the core temperature reads 54 °C (129 °F) for a nicely medium rare result. Spread a generous amount of salted peanut butter on the bottom half of your burgerbun and put the burger on top. Divide the bacon and grilled bananas evenly and finish with the strawberry-BBQ sauce and the top half of the buns.
